Sustainable Action Canmore (SAC)

 

A highly successful community-based program designed to foster sustainable behaviour among the Town’s households.  In 2010 we visited over 6,100 households in Canmore, rain or shine!  Learn more about the 2010 SAC project results in the latest edition of the Sustainability Times.

The program encourages residents to take sustainable action in one of four domains:

  • Water Use
  • Energy Efficiency
  • Waste Reduction
  • Transportation Impacts

Congratulations to Beckie Scott who reported her energy savings activities and won October’s prize:  Energuide Home Energy Assessment (~value $350) kindly provided by. KCP Energy.

 

Don’t forget to sign up and report on your energy savings activities, you could win $250 worth of green power (equivalent to 12.5 megawatt hours, enough for one large home for a year) kindly provided by Bow Valley Power.

  • Sustainable Action Canmore, a partnership between the Biosphere Institute of the Bow Valley and the Town of Canmore is helping the community move towards its ESAP goals.

    What is ESAP?

    ESAP is the Town of Canmore’s Environmental Sustainability Action Plan. It provides the Town of Canmore (both the corporation and the community) with a series of goals for achieving environmental sustainability.  Sustainable Action Canmore is helping the community move towards several of its ESAP goals including:

    Energy and Climate Protection – By 2050

    Reduce community CO2 emissions by 50% from 2007 levels

    Resource Conservation and Waste Management – By 2035

    Total Municipal Solid Waste land filled is 0.30 tonnes/person/year (62% per capita reduction from 2008 levels)

    Water Management – By 2035

    Reduce per-capita residential water consumption by 50 % from 2000 levels
