Resource Center

In July 2004, the Biosphere Resource Centre expanded when it moved to a larger and more prominent location in downtown Canmore. An upgrade to the Resource Centre in 2005/2006 resulted in improved library storage, the establishment of a reading room, and the development of numerous public displays in professional display cases. Resource Centre displays focus on wildlife, geological, and sustainability issues.

The Resource Centre library also underwent a major expansion with the addition of more than 1,360 documents from the Alberta Community Development: Parks and Protected Areas library.  The Centre’s library now contains more than 2,350 documents, 100 maps, and 4,000 newspaper articles on local ecosystem issues.  The public is welcome to visit the library or search online.

Library documents have been donated to the Resource Centre by the Town of Canmore, Government of Alberta, Parks Canada, the Town of Banff, University of Calgary, Canmore Public Library, local industry, local developers, regional environmental groups, and local citizens.

These documents may be viewed at the Resource Centre, or are available to the public free of charge on loan for a maximum period of two weeks. Documents can also be shipped to locations outside the Bow Valley (mailing costs or shipping fees may apply).

The Resource Centre is open to the public from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday to Friday.
