Previous Programs

Here are some of the programs that the Biosphere Institute has offered in previous years.  Many thanks to all of our sponsors and project participants.

Bow Valley Sustainability Hub - Established in 2006, the Hub is dedicated to creating and supporting a culture of sustainability in the Bow Valley.  The Hub is a legacy of The Natural Step to a Sustainable Canmore, a two-year program in which the Town of Canmore and other local organizations and businesses learned the principles of sustainability and developed sustainability action plans.

Natural Step to a Sustainable Canmore -  The Biosphere Institute was pleased to coordinate this sustainability program for the community.  The implementation of this program continues through the Sustainability Hub at the Biosphere Institute and through the adoption of the Natural Step principles by participating organizations such as the Town of Canmore.

Bow Valley Save-A-Watt -  This energy savings campaign helped local residents learn how to save money and energy while reducing greenhouse gas emissions by reducing home electricity use.

One-Tonne Challenge - The Biosphere Institute was proud to be the regional coordinator for the One-Tonne Challenge program in the Bow Valley.

Bow Valley Ox-Eye Daisy Project - In 2003 the Biosphere Institute undertook the Bow Valley Ox-Eye Daisy Project in conjunction with other local partners and with support from Environment Canada's EcoAction program. Ox-eye Daisy is one of the most prevalent invasive plants in the Bow Valley, especially in riparian areas along the Bow River.
