The M.D of Bighorn is composed of rural areas and five hamlets: Dead Man’s Flats, Harvie Heights, Exshaw, Lac Des Arc, and Benchlands. Approximately half the population lives in the five hamlets, the remainder in the rural areas.
- The M.D covers a total area of 2,664 square kilometers (1029 square miles).
- Population 1,298 (in 2001).
- The major components of the local economy are mineral extraction and processing, oil and gas, logging, and agriculture.
- The M.D. was incorporated as a self-governing jurisdiction in 1988.
