Anti-Idling

  • Drop by the Biosphere Resource Centre, take the Canadian Idle and Canadian Tire Quiz and get a free tire pressure gauge (while supplies last)
  • Businesses, schools and organizations call 403-678-3445 if you are interested in Anti-Idle signs or want to sign up to green your fleet

Try the following hints:

  • Turn off the engine if the vehicle is going to be parked for more than 60
    seconds (except in traffic).
  • On cold winter days, drive the vehicle to warm it up rather than idling
the engine. (usually no more than two to three minutes of idling is enough
    warm-up time.)
  • Avoid using a remote car starter. These devices encourage you to start
your vehicle before you are ready to leave, which means wasteful idling.
  • Use a block heater on cold winter days to warm the engine before starting
it (ideally, the block heater should be turned on by an automatic timer 2
hours before starting). This will improve fuel efficiency and reduce CO2
    emissions.
  • Encourage your family, friends and neighbours about the benefits of reduced
idling. Encourage them to join you in saving money, protecting the
environment and contributing to a healthier community.
