Canmore Mayor Ron Casey and Councillors Andre Gareau, John
Borrowman, Corinna Dootjes, Michael Heenan and
Mike Western display the new Sustainability Declaration in front of the Canmore
Civic Centre.
In
April, Canmore’s Mayor and Councillors signed a Sustainability Declaration,
thus committing themselves to helping create a sustainable future for the town.
By signing the declaration, they joined a growing group of civic leaders around
the world who are dedicating time and energy to learning how society can
integrate its economic, environmental, and social activities in ways that will
allow future generations to enjoy the same resources, opportunities, and
quality of life we do today.
The Sustainability Declaration marks the beginning of a new era of sustainability
planning and action for Canmore. As a legacy of The Natural Step to a
Sustainable Canmore – a sustainability training and planning program that the Town
and other Canmore organizations have participated in for the past 18 months – an
exciting community-wide sustainability initiative is being planned for early
summer of 2006.
