In 2019-2020, the Biosphere Institute is piloting a participatory learning approach to help Canmore locals to reduce their energy consumption. We are spending our spring, summer, and fall learning from local builders, property managers, contractors, homeowners, and commercial property owners. We hope to better understand what these different audiences already know about energy efficiency, what they want to learn more about, and how they want to learn it.

Help us learn from you! Take this short energy efficiency education survey by clicking here.

Starting in late fall, we will use what we learn from Canmore community members to develop energy efficiency education programs and information materials that are directly responsive to local needs and interests. Education could take the form of practical workshops guided by local or regional experts, meetings in the coffee shop or pub, open houses, community presentations, or written case studies that include cost-benefit analyses relevant for the Bow Valley context. We hope to highlight energy conservation measures such as retrofits, energy efficient building practices, and adoption of renewables, as well as financing options.

Our ultimate goal is that the recipients of education programs are empowered to identify measures to reduce their energy use, and to take action.
