2025 Green Buildings Open House
We're excited to welcome you back to the Green Buildings Open House, happening Saturday, May 31 from 11 AM to 4 PM across the Bow Valley!
This annual event is your chance to step inside local homes and businesses that are leading the way in high-performance, sustainable design and construction. From renewable energy systems and water-saving features to climate-resilient upgrades, each stop showcases real-world solutions for building a greener future.
What makes this event special? The tours are hosted by the homeowners and business owners themselves—offering a unique opportunity for peer-to-peer learning and meaningful conversations about what sustainable living looks like in our mountain communities.
No registration is needed, unless you’d like to join the special tour of the Spring Creek Staff Accommodation. Space is limited, so be sure to register here if you're interested.

HARVIE HEIGHTS FULL ELECTRIFICATION
This 1950's/2007 home has undergone an electrification energy retrofit. The homeowners have electrified everything and have removed their connection to the main gas line. The retrofit included replacing their old heating system with a heat pump and hybrid hot water tank, and a solar PV system. This household not only heats their home using their solar panels but charges and runs two electric vehicles and an e-bike!

HOMESTEADS NET-ZERO PASSIVE HOUSE
This is a new net-zero Passive House atop a reclaimed coal mine that uses a Ground-source heat pump (vertical closed loop system) to heat and cool the property. With a high-performance building envelope and wildfire resilient design there is plenty to see at this property!
LIONS PARK NEAR NET ZERO HOME
These homeowners are retired engineers with a passion for sustainable energy. Their dream of building a NetZero Home, which takes advantage of all the natural energy assets available at a given location, has come to fruition in this new build, which is newly completed.
Please note only the mechanical room will be available for viewing.
SPRING CREEK STAFF ACCOMMODATION
This 24-unit staff building supports sustainable living with geoexchange heating and cooling, in-floor radiant heat, and rooftop solar panels. It showcases energy-efficient design in high-density housing and reflects Spring Creek’s commitment to community and sustainability.
PLEASE NOTE - this is a closed site - Pre-registration for site tours is required to attend. SECURE YOUR PLACE HERE.
LARCH PEER HOME
This home demonstrates the transformative impact of a PEER system in boosting energy efficiency and enhancing comfort, all without requiring occupants to move out during the process. It also underscores the value of sustainable materials, such as wood fiber, which match the performance of conventional alternatives while significantly lowering carbon emissions during renovation and reducing landfill waste.
LARCH DEEP ENERGY RETROFIT
This home is an example of a Deep Energy Retrofit with a renewable heating source. The existing 1997 two-storey home, which already had solar PV and solar hot water, got a major energy efficiency upgrade with passive house design in mind.
CANMORE FIRE STATION
The new Canmore Fire Station became operational in January of 2024. It showcases many sustainable building design features, including rooftop solar system and air source heat pump. This facility is designed to be one of Alberta’s first fire stations to meet net zero energy standards.
