Birds in Our Backyard & How to Help Them Thrive

Join us for an engaging, family-friendly presentation and bird walk with Ann Fu and Gareth Thomson!

We’ll begin at the library with a short presentation on the challenges birds face in developed environments and what we can do to reduce our impact at home, at work, and in our community. We’ll then head outdoors to explore the nearby Policeman's Creek boardwalk and trails where participants will practice birdwatching and identification.

Attendees will learn:

  • How to identify common bird species in the Bow Valley and use binoculars effectively

  • The challenges birds face in developed areas year-round

  • Bird-friendly strategies you can apply at home and in your community

  • How to prevent bird-building collisions, including window markers and solutions like Feather Friendly

Please note that this is primarily an outdoor event. Please come prepared to be outside for about an hour. Bring a jacket, hat, comfortable walking shoes, and your own binoculars. (A few pairs of binoculars will also be available to borrow).
