These environmental rebates and incentives in the Bow Valley can help your family or business take action on climate change and the environment.

Rebates and incentives help you finance environmental actions, such as fruit tree removal, energy efficient technologies, or solar PV systems, to name a few. Both residential and commercial rebates are listed below by level of funding: federal, provincial, municipal, or other.

Residential rebates & incentives

Federal

Zero Emission Vehicles (iZEV) purchase and lease incentive: Point-of-sale incentive for consumers who buy or lease a zero emission vehicle. Battery-electric, hydrogen fuel cell, and longer-range plug-in hybrid vehicles: up to $5,000; shorter range plug-in hybrid vehicles: up to $2,500.

Canada Greener Homes Initiative: $125 to $5,000 grants to get part of your costs back for eligible home retrofits. Up to $600 as a maximum contribution toward the total cost of your pre- and post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluations. $5,000-$40,000 interest-free loans with a repayment of 10 years.

Municipal - Town of Canmore

Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP): A low-interest financing option for homeowners with repayments through annual property tax bills.

Residential Solar Incentive Program: An annual solar incentive rebate program for residents to help offset the cost of purchasing and installing a rooftop solar photovoltaic system in Canmore.

Multi-Family Solar Incentive Program: An annual solar incentive rebate program for multi-family buildings to help offset the cost of purchasing and installing a rooftop solar photovoltaic system in Canmore. The system needs to service the building's common areas and/or all units.

Fruit Tree Removal Incentive Program: covers 100% of the pre-tax cost of removal of the fruit tree(s) or bush(es) by an arborist or tree removal service up to $500/property. The program is offered on a first-come, first-served while funds are available.

Home Upgrades Program (for Affordable Services Program Participants Only): A program designed to help qualified homeowners lower their energy bills by installing free home upgrades that reduce energy consumption and create a more comfortable and affordable home. It is delivered by Kambo Energy Group and Alberta Ecotrust in partnership with the Town of Canmore.

E-Bike Incentive Pilot Program (for Affordable Service Program Participants Only): The 2024 pilot program is open exclusively to Canmore residents in the Affordable Services Program to reduce barriers to e-bike ownership for Canmore residents with the highest financial need. Affordable Service Program participants will receive application details directly.

Municipal - Town of Banff

Banff’s Residential Rebates: Banff offers a number of residential environmental rebates, including:

  • Active Transportation: Snow and ice walking aids, studded bicycle tires, e-bikes

  • Energy Efficiency: Refrigerator, clothes washer, dishwasher, door replacement, furnace, solar hot water heater, home energy audit

  • Water Efficiency: Toilet, rain barrel

Solar Incentive Program: Post-install rebate program. Funding based on size of solar system installed.

Fruit Tree Replacement Program: Aims to reduce wildlife attractants while maintaining and protecting our urban forest.

FireSmart Tree Replacement Incentive: Incentive for residential property owners to reduce wildlife hazards by removing conifer trees and replacing them with deciduous trees.

Combustible Roof Replacement Incentive Program: Financial incentives to homeowners whose homes have an unrated combustible roof system.

Community-wide

Community Cruisers Bike All Winter Program: Annual program to encourage winter cycling. Subsidized winter bicycle tires, lights and fenders, training on winter riding, and mentorship.

Commercial Rebates & Incentives

Provincial

Energy Savings for Businesses (Emissions Reduction Alberta): Gives small- and medium-scale enterprises fast access to incentives for cost-effective efficiency measures, up to $25,000 available per project. All current funding made available through ERA’s ESB program and subsequent program streams has been awarded.  Any ESB applications submitted after April 1, 2023, will be added to a waitlist and reviewed in the order of receipt and ERA will contact you if funding becomes available.

Electric Vehicle Charging Program (MCCAC): SouthGrow Electric Vehicle Charging Program supports municipalities, businesses and other organizations installing new EV charging stations for public and/or fleet use.

Municipal - Town of Canmore

Commercial Solar Incentive Program: An annual solar incentive rebate program for commercial property owners to help offset the cost of purchasing and installing a rooftop solar photovoltaic system in Canmore.

Municipal - Town of Banff

Solar Incentive Program: Post-install rebate program. Funding based on size of solar system installed.

Commercial Rebates: Improve the environmental efficiency of commercial properties. Rebates include dual flush toilet, low-flow toilet, dishwasher, refrigerator, door replacement, window replacement, energy audit or GHG inventory, and e-bikes.
