Environmental Rebates & Incentives in the Bow Valley
Rebates and incentives help you finance environmental actions, such as fruit tree removal, energy efficient technologies, or solar PV systems, to name a few. Both residential and commercial rebates are listed below by level of funding: federal, provincial, municipal, or other.

Residential Rebates & Incentives
Electric Vehicle Affordability Program: Point-of-sale incentive for consumers who buy or lease a zero emission vehicle. Battery-electric, hydrogen fuel cell, and longer-range plug-in hybrid vehicles: up to $5,000; shorter range plug-in hybrid vehicles: up to $2,500. This incentive aims to lower the cost of electric vehicles in Canada.
Roof Replacement Incentive: A one-time program designed to help Canmore residents reduce wildfire risk by upgrading to fire-resistant roofing materials. Applicants must have proof of a FireSmart Home Assessment that recommends a roof replacement and a quote from a certified roofer detailing the costs and materials to replace the roof.
Residential Solar Incentive Program: An annual solar incentive rebate program for residents to help offset the cost of purchasing and installing a rooftop solar photovoltaic system in Canmore.
Multi-Family Solar Incentive Program: An annual solar incentive rebate program for multi-family buildings to help offset the cost of purchasing and installing a rooftop solar photovoltaic system in Canmore. The system needs to service the building's common areas and/or all units. There is a lottery system if applications exceed available funding.
Fruit Tree Removal Incentive Program: A program which covers 100% of the pre-tax cost of removal and/or replacement of the fruit tree(s) or bush(es) by an arborist or tree removal service up to $500/property and $1,000/condo association or commercial property. The program is offered on a first-come, first-served while funds are available and aims to remove the financial barrier of tree removal/replacement.
Electric Vehicle (EV) Incentive: This program offers to cover 75% of the cost to install a publicly available Level 2 or Level 3 charger, up to $10,000 for multi-family buildings. The EV charging station mut be available to all users of the building who own an electric vehicle. The EV Readiness Plan Incentive program also covers 75% of the cost, up to 5,000$, to hire a qualified professional* to develop an EV Readiness Plan for a multi-family building.
Banff’s Residential Rebates: Banff offers a number of residential environmental rebates, including:
Active Transportation: Snow and ice walking aids, studded bicycle tires, e-bikes
Energy Efficiency: Refrigerator, clothes washer, dishwasher, door replacement, furnace, solar hot water heater, home energy audit
Water Efficiency: Toilet, rain barrel
Solar Incentive Program: Post-install rebate program. Funding based on size of solar system installed.
Fruit Tree Replacement Program: Aims to reduce wildlife attractants while maintaining and protecting our urban forest. It covers 100% of the cost to remove the fruit-bearing tree and replace it with a non-fruit-bearing deciduous tree.
FireSmart Tree Replacement Incentive: Incentive for residential property owners to reduce wildlife hazards by removing conifer trees and replacing them with deciduous trees.
Combustible Roof Replacement Incentive Program: Financial incentives to homeowners whose homes have an unrated combustible roof system.
Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP): A low-interest financing option for homeowners with repayments through annual property tax bills. It is an Albertan financial tool and the program is run by the different municipalities of Alberta.
Community Cruisers Bike All Winter Program: Annual program to encourage winter cycling. Subsidized winter bicycle tires, lights and fenders, training on winter riding, and mentorship.
Commercial Rebates and Incentives
Strategic Energy Management for Industry: This 70 million dollar program aids industrial and manufacturing facilities in regards to energy management by providing them with knowledge, training, expertise and help with capital retrofit costs. Through this program, facilities can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency. The SEMI program is open till the end of March 2027.
Electric Vehicle Charging Program (EVCP): This program covers up to 46% of total project costs. It is administered by Alberta Municipalities in an aim to offset the costs associated with installing and purchasing EV chargers. Its first round of funding is currently full but expressions of interest are welcomed as part of a waitlist.
Commercial Solar Incentive Program: An annual solar incentive rebate program for commercial property owners to help offset the cost of purchasing and installing a rooftop solar photovoltaic system in Canmore. The incentive amount is based on the system’s size and can be up to $20,000. Applications for 2026 Solar incentives are closed but encouraged for 2027.
Solar Incentive Program: Post-install rebate program. Funding based on size of solar system installed.
Commercial Rebates: Improve the environmental efficiency of commercial properties. Rebates include dual flush toilet, low-flow toilet, dishwasher, refrigerator, door replacement, window replacement, energy audit or GHG inventory, and e-bikes.
