Road transportation is an important source of emissions. In the Bow Valley, transportation accounts for approximately 60% of our total greenhouse gas emissions (Source: Canmore Climate Emergency Action Plan, 2024).

Concerns over our impact on the climate is driving the adoption of electric vehicles. Around 15% of all new vehicle sales are electric. This number is expected to grow by 50% on average year-over-year as charging performance quickens, distance range improves, and prices for EVs reach parity with combustion engine vehicles.

PREPARING for the increase in EVs

This means that the Bow Valley will see a sharp increase in EVs in the near future. Visitors, workers and residents alike care about EV charging infrastructure. Many plan their itineraries around the availability of charging stations.

The increase in EVs presents an opportunity for businesses to capture a wider market. The transition is well underway; join us to learn how to plan accordingly!

WORKSHOPS: A LEARNING OPPORTUNITY

We will deliver a series of workshops and learning sessions designed for developers, tourism organizations, planners, businesses, and community partners. These sessions will explore EV-ready planning, charging infrastructure, and practical approaches to supporting EV adoption across the Bow Valley.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:

  1. The needs of EV users.

  2. The different kinds of chargers (Level 1, 2, 3) and their application. You will get a better understanding of what infrastructure is right for your use case.

3. Learn how to plan for the increase of EVs in the Bow Valley and how to harness this business opportunity. Get a better sense of how to implement new infrastructure or retrofit your existing one to accommodate EVs.
