Speaker Series - GIFTS from FLOWER: OUR NOSE TO NOSE GRIZZLY ENCOUNTER

  • artsPlace 950 - 8th Avenue Canmore, AB, T1W 2T1 Canada (map)

Join Mya Helena Myllykoski, Associate Professor at Mount Royal University at our next Speaker Series event GIFTS from FLOWER: OUR NOSE TO NOSE GRIZZLY ENCOUNTER. Mya shares her experiences with her son Alex when a grizzly mauling was stopped with a bite to a can of bear spray.

Grizzly bearing gifts: As many people are drawn to the wild places adequate, purposeful and deliberate preparation in anticipation of bear encounters protects both bears and humans. A nose to nose encounter with a grizzly was peppered with an abundance of luck and a can of bear spray. Surviving and thriving from this encounter, the lessons learned and gifts received are shared while highlighting the optimal mental and physical preparation needed before setting foot into our wild places.

Please note: This presentation contains images from the bear encounter that some viewers may find distressing. Viewer discretion is advised.

This is a free event, however donations towards the WildSmart program to support our community-based efforts to promote human-wildlife coexistence are always very much appreciated.

Special thanks goes out to our event sponsors, Rotary Club of Canmore and Lafarge Canada for their generous support of our Speaker Series!

This picture was taken a few moments before their encounter!
