A highly enriching evening together, this is a rare and precious opportunity to attune inward to how we feel, and the concerns we have, about the wellbeing of our world, in a safe and respectful environment
Akin to the most recent Circle, I’ll be opening this evening with 3 of my solo dances. You may or may not know that, amongst other key focuses, I am a dancer. I trained with the Royal Winning Ballet, and toured internationally with the acclaimed Anna Wyman Dance Theatre, and the Judith Marcuse Dance Company, before beginning to tour solo.
This evening, I’ll dance 2 solos from my inaugural 1989 tour, plus 1 solo from my 2021 artsPlace production, ‘Seeking Freedom’. The first solo, ‘Dragon Fly’, depicts a dragonfly beetle cracking open its shell, and flying. To me, this is a metaphor for the potential of our species. The second solo, ‘The Drop’, is a gentle yet powerful homage to all those who have ‘disappeared’. The third solo, ‘Back from the Edge’, connects us with our inborn capacity to feel Joy. Joy, Love, and Peace are vital nourishers, elixirs to balance us, as we bear witness to the state of the world. The running time of these 3 solos is approximately 20 minutes.
Following this, my dear friend Tobias Ear will share with us a very rich opportunity to experience aspects of Iethka Nakoda culture, and wisdom that he carries. For those of you who’ve been present in any of our 4 previous Circles with Tobias, he is a gem, and the gifts he shares with us are priceless
Tobias and I will then open the Listening Circle. This is an opportunity to attune inward, and to either share vocally or not, your feelings and concerns about our current times. A highly respectful Circle, guided by very simple and profoundly effective Indigenous principles, you will experience a lightness, together with others, that is rare in our current world.
Following this, you’re free to mingle – or not. Refreshments will be available both prior to the Circle and post.
If you’re drawn to be with us on May 22, please a) arrive on time (doors open at 6:15, Circle begins at 7), and b) RSVP to office@ralphconnor.ca so we know how many people to prepare for!
