Living wild:

Wildlife Safety and Bear Spray Training

We provide training to help your staff – and your guests – stay Wildlife-safe on the trails.

Session Contents

Our 1.5 hour Living Wild training includes a wildlife safety presentation and bear spray deployment experience.

During the presentation, participants will learn what it means to safely and respectfully live with wildlife in the Bow Valley. The presentation includes information on local ecology, how to prevent a wildlife encounter, and how to effectively deal with a wild animal should they encounter one. The presentation is complimented by an artifact table where participants can touch and handle real furs, horns, claws, antlers, and more!

After a brief question and answer period, participants will move outside and put their knowledge to the test with our bear spray deployment experience. Participants will practice using bear spray by aiming and firing inert (fake) bear spray at a target. Successful and attentive participants will receive a certificate upon completing Living Wild training.

Participants will integrate their learnings into everyday life and interactions with guests, creating a safer and more relaxing experience for all staff, volunteers, and guests of the Bow Valley.

Show Contents

Bear Necessities is an exciting and immersive 1.5 hour show led by wildlife experts, designed to captivate and educate your guests.

The Bow Valley is a unique landscape that provides home to many animals, from the smallest pika to the largest grizzly bear. Our show provides a glimpse into the world of these animals, placing emphasis on what visitors are really here to see, the great bear.

Your guests will leave our show excited and educated, with an understanding of how to safely and respectfully coexist with wildlife while they’re visiting the rocky mountains. Guests will form a deep appreciation towards bears and will know how to avoid encounters, and deal with them should they occur.

After the show, an array of pelts, claws, tracks, and other bear and wildlife artifacts will be on display. Guests will have the opportunity to engage directly with a local wildlife expert and ask any unanswered questions.

The knowledge they gain during Bear Necessities can be easily translated to the trails and wildlife at home, whether they live down the road or across the globe.
