ELECTRIC VEHICLES IN THE BOW VALLEY

With Canada's goal for all new cars and passenger trucks to be zero-emission by 2035, electric vehicles (EVs) are part of the future here in the Bow Valley. The Biosphere Institute prepared these resources to address common questions about EV ownership and encourage Bow Valley residents to consider purchasing an EV. In 2022, we also held Canmore’s first Electric Vehicle Expo and hosted Plug’n Drive electric vehicle test drives!


Sustainable Building Summit Webinar Series

Modified for virtual viewing, the Sustainable Building Summit is was delivered from August to October 2020 and includes a nine-part webinar series. Learn from experts from across Western Canada as they dive into case studies about creating green communities, developing markets for sustainable building, installing solar and geothermal systems, testing energy efficiency performance codes, and more.

Residential Energy Efficiency Workshop Series

From April to December 2019, the Biosphere Institute used a participatory learning approach to determine from our local residents: What do they want or need to learn about energy efficiency, and how do they want to learn it? Based on what our community members’ feedback, we delivered a three-part workshop series to Bow Valley residents.


ENERGY

The Town of Canmore seeks to reduce community greenhouse gas emissions from all sources by 30% below 2015 levels by 2030, and by 80% by 2050.


WASTE

By 2030, the Town of Canmore aims to divert 60% of our community's organic waste from the landfill, reduce solid waste by 40% per capita, reduce construction waste by 50% and reduce commercial/institutional waste by 30%.

WATER

By 2035, the Town of Canmore seeks to reduce residential water consumption by 50% per capita below 2000 levels.


AIR

Whilst air quality in the Bow Valley in generally very good, there are a number of threats, factors and challenges to be aware of. In partnership with the Bow Valley Clean Air Society, we recently led an Earth Talk workshop about how to build your own indoor air filter. FOOD

Plant-rich diets hold enormous potential for climate change mitigation if adopted on a global scale. Learn more about how your plate and food systems around you can have a large impact on human health, food security, environment and biodiversity.


TRANSPORTATION

By 2030, the Town of Canmore aims to reduce vehicle kilometers traveled by 30% below 2015 levels. We hope that at least forty percent of trips within the community will use sustainable modes (public transit, car-share, biking, or walking).
